Can intense massage or “nose exercises” make my nose smaller?

Hi, I don’t love my nose, but I would prefer not to get plastic surgery. Is there any kind of non-surgical method (massage, exercises, etc) to make my nose smaller/slimmer in any way? Thank you.

Hello and thank you for your question. Unfortunately, despite what you might find online, nose manipulation exercises and massages do NOT change the shape of the nose or tip! The only effect you might see is creation of a horizontal crease above your tip if you frequently rub your nose or push the tip up (due to the skin folding- similar to how your forehead develops wrinkles as you age). To address the size or shape of the nose, you would need surgery to adjust the underlying structural framework.

Addressing the shape of your nose (especially the nasal tip) is actually one of the most common reasons people seek out and undergo a rhinoplasty. An open septorhinoplasty can best address both your aesthetic concerns and any functional issues with your nose. I would be able to adjust the size, shape, and definition of your nose (especially tip)!

This truly is a surgery of millimeters- and whether you're looking for a minor adjustment or a major transformation, it requires exceptional surgical skill to achieve functional and natural-looking results! Because your nose is the DEFINING feature of your face- I would only recommend seeing a surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty procedures, and who has significant training and experience performing these surgeries. I am unaware of any nasal exercises. The muscles at the bottom of the nose dilate the nostrils. While there are numerous non-surgical treatments available for many cosmetic concerns, the size and shape of your nose are primarily determined by your bone and cartilage structure, which cannot be altered with massage or exercises.
Nose exercises or massage techniques that claim to reshape or slim the nose have not been scientifically proven to be effective. Any temporary changes in the shape or size of your nose due to these methods are likely due to swelling or inflammation, and are not permanent.
Non-surgical nose jobs using dermal fillers can help to change the shape and appearance of the nose, but these treatments add volume, they do not make the nose smaller. Fillers can be used to smooth out humps or bumps, lift the tip or create a more balanced appearance, but they cannot reduce the size of the nose.
If you are unhappy with the size of your nose, your best option would be to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon. They can discuss your concerns, evaluate your nose and facial structure, and help you understand what results are possible with surgical and non-surgical treatments.
Remember, it's important to have realistic expectations and understand that everyone's nose is unique and contributes to their individual appearance. It's also crucial to consider any treatment's potential risks and benefits.
