Hi, I have noticed lately that I have a jowl that has formed on the left side of my face face. I was wondering what optional procedures I have in order to improve the jowl. Thank you for your time
Answer: Buccal fat loss causing less support/fullness under the cheekbones Hi, it looks like your left side has buccal fat loss which is happening faster than your right side. Without some volume/support between the cheekbone and extending to the “jowl” to blend the 3 separate convex surfaces (cheekbone, masseter & “jowl”) together into a single smooth convex cheek which extends from the cheekbone to the jawline, the “hollowing” under the cheekbone may cause the appearance of sagging of the lower face. This can cause an older appearance, which most people do not like. Young people with baby faces in their early 20’s seem to want their buccal fat removed and are hinted by some plastic surgeons who prey on these super young patients that celebrities get buccal fat removal by showing them with fuller faces when they are younger then thinner faces when they are older and more famous. What potential patients don’t realize is that most actors look much younger than their actual age. It also takes a long time in Hollywood to become famous. So if they take a young photo before they were famous then show an older photo when they are more famous, richer, older, thinner and fitter, of course their buccal fat area has shrunk down. However, their marketing material hints to the young person that the celebrities are all getting buccal fat removal and that was the cause for them to become famous. The opposite is true. For any of those examples, look up the actor’s IMDB listing and you will see that they have been acting for 5-10 years before they were really discovered. Luckily, because they look younger (fuller face, fuller buccal area) by the time they are discovered and have the breakthrough movie, they still look very young and can still act in parts which maybe 5-10 years younger than their actual age. Hope that provides some explanation to why this may be happening. Good luck. Best, Dr. Yang

Answer: Robust HA Fillers Work Well For Diminishing Jowls & Hollows A profile or three-quarter face photo would be additionally helpful. But, from this front face photo, it would appear that the use of a robust HA filler appropriately place would diminish the jowl and restore a more normal balance between both sides of the face. Make sure to consult with an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Answer: Improving on Jowl formation Looking at your photograph it is not a jowl that appears but instead either an enlarged parotid gland or an enlarged masseter muscle on the left side of the face. The change inproportions of different parts of the face as what creates the appearance of the Jowl. You need to be evaluated in person in order to determine what is causing this proportion changes and create a treatment plan. If this is an enlarged masseter, an easy treatment using Botox will prevail. I hope this helps and good luck from New York City plastic surgery
