Hi, I am in my 40s and interested in a mini facelift and neck lift. I hear that many surgeons are doing this procedure with only a local anesthetic and oral sedatives and pain killers. I also know some more traditional plastic surgeons insist that this is better done under something like twilight sedation/propofol. Can some plastic surgeons share their opinion on this because I would like to do this procedure one way or another. Thank you so much in advance.
Answer: Mini Facelift Anesthesia Options I appreciate your concerns and confusion, and simply put, this procedure can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with oral or IV sedation. While each option has pros and cons, bottom line is each is equally safe and effective. It really comes down to the individual having the surgery and pain and comfort level tolerance. The primary advantage of local anesthesia with modest oral sedation is the ability to go home right after the procedure without an escort, if one so desires. Stronger sedation usually requires approximately one hour recovery before being discharged with an escort. I perform MACS Mini Facelift surgery quite frequently and use either form of anesthesia, however I tailor the type of anesthesia to my patients’ preference. Come see me or another board-certified plastic surgeon in our area to explore the best options for you.

Answer: Mini Facelift & Mini neck lift -- FaceTite RF for internal skin tightening + Neck Liposuction for definition/contouring FaceTite can internally tighten the skin in the lower face and neck. After all the skin has been heated and contracted, we shape the neck with liposuction to give definition and remove stubborn pockets of fat. In one quick treatment, we can tighten skin, remove fat, and contour the lower face, jawline, and jowls with only a weekend of downtime. Keep in mind that combination approaches will give you a more significant improvement as opposed to a single procedure. I recommend getting a consultation with a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist and facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Anesthesia Option The choice of oral/local anesthesia versus conscious sedation is dependent on the surgeon. There is no right or wrong answer. Whichever anesthetic option he/she is comfortable with to achieve the result you wish to get is the right one.

Answer: Yes, it can be done Yes, a mini facelift and necklift can be done under only local anesthesia. However, you will typically be more comfortable under sedation or anesthesia, as it is sometimes difficult to get comfortable (and stay still!) for a period of time without this. Having an anesthesiologist there also allows them to focus on your comfort, blood pressure, oxygen levels, etc so the surgeon can focus on doing the best work possible. Best of luck!

Answer: No reason not to do under local As long as you have no underlying medical problems, there's no reason you could not be done under local anesthesia. I've done thousands of facelifts, not mini facelifts, under local anesthesia, including deep plane vertical lifts. Every surgeon has his preferences, so its best to seek other opinions to see which surgeon best fits your desires.
