Test positive for Covid before surgery - is this going to affect my surgery?

I have my breast augmentation surgery scheduled in 23 days. I just tested positive for covid three days ago. Is this going to affect my surgery? Assuming I recover fine in the next week is it possible to test negative in 16 days?

Protocols for covid vary depending on each doctor or practice I recommend to wait three months after having covid for elegible surgery, that way we ensure that the patient is fully heal and all his or her levels are optimal. There are already guidelines for patients testing positive to COVID that are looking getting and lecture surgery. Let your Plastic surgeon know this and im sure he will give you the best recommendation regarding on waiting time to get the surgery done.  Good luck!

Check with your surgeon for his or her covid protocol.  If you are fully healed with no symptoms, surgery may be possible. You may test negative 3 weeks out, but many patients stay positive longer. Best wishes!

If you have any symptoms of COVID, your surgery will need to be postponed for at least 4 weeks. If you have no symptoms and test negative the following week, you might be able to keep your scheduled time. Your surgeon will discuss this with you. Please let him/her know.

The answer to this question has been changing over the past year in our community. I think the safe waiting period depends upon surgery center and hospital guidelines. These rules are influenced by  local health department rules and the CDC.

The safest way to answer this question is to discuss waiting periods with your surgeon and the anesthesiologist at the center you are to be treated at.
