I git my implants replaced about 6 or 7 years ago because they were old and the scar tissue was disfiguring them. The left is doing great, no issues. The right keeps hardening. I have been in 3 times to have the scar tissue removed. The implant is now puckering again (where visible) so I saw my surgeon again about getting it fixed again. I'm waivering- should I just get them taken out or suck up the cost? I need an opinion.

Answer: Tough call It's hard to say when enough is enough when one gets recurrent capsular contracture. Taking the implants and scar tissue out is the only way to guarantee that it won't happen again. The problem is that your skin may be stretched out to the point that no implants will look bad. Need to discuss the possiblity with your surgeon and maybe even get a second opinion so that you will be confident in your decision. Good luck, Dr. T

Answer: Recurrent capsular contracture Recurrent capsular contracture can be very challenging, for both the patient and the surgeon! Going back in and doing the same thing and hoping for a different outcome is unrealistic. Getting a second opinion in your area from an experienced breast surgeon may be a good option. Good luck!
