Nose to drop after closed revision rhino depending on how scars heal?

It is almost a rule that the nasal tip will drop with time. Its a consequence of aging and loss of muscular and skeletal support. At this point however the edema from the surgery always makes the nasal tip look higher than expected. This does resolve to some degree. This small drop post operatively will most likely not be noticeable in the future. In terms of preventing drop there is not much you can do unless if the tip has tension from the depressor septii muscle, then a small amount of a neuromodulator such as Botox can help. A mild drop that happens to the nose after the swelling has subsided is usually not significant and not perceptible to most individuals.  There is no way to avoid it or predicted.  The best option is to wait and see what the final result looks like.  In the meantime avoid excessive salt, alcohol intake, excessive caffeine, sun exposure or exercise.RegardsDr.   Janjua

Hi,3 days is such an acute phase that even if the nose was not taped you could never guess the approximate final result, nor the surgeon...The speculation of 1mm drop is the term we usually use to define the change of the tissues during the time of early healing (first couple of weeks). That includes resolution of skin edema, better adhesion of skin to underlying cartilage and the final shape of all nasal structure which is quite soft and elastic and particularly mobile(!). Measuring the dimensions of nose and comparing with preop state is quite impossible as tissues, landmarks and their anatomical boundaries also may change position. So the what so called reference points also change most of the time. Believe me 1mm is a difference that none of the surgeons or patients are capable of measuring with conventional methods. So don't mind the numbers but the final outcome by the end of healing period (which is at least 3-6 months postop).My best
