Swelling after TT in lower abdomen is normal and can take months to resolve, but if it is worse, there may be a fluid collection (seroma) which would benefit from being drained. I would consult with your surgeon.

Surgery for abdominal lipodystrophy is an operation which involves removal of excess skin and fat. This operation results in an incision down on the lower aspect of the abdomen with extension out to the lateral hip area. Subsequent inflammation following surgery may result in swelling at the operative site. Some surgeons use drains for removal of this fluid.  Despite the use of drains there may still yet be some fluid accumulation or even interstitial edema which is swelling of the tissue without a buildup of fluid. This may be increased with a resumption of activity following the surgery. Discussing postoperative care with your surgeon is important part of your care plan in determining the timing for returning to activity that may result in increased edema at the operative site. Swelling and bruising are normal manifestations of healing after surgery. These will resolve on their own in the coming months as you fully recover. However, there is a chance that you have developed seroma or fluid collection which should be drained by your surgeon. Schedule an appointment with your surgeon if this gets worse.
