I'm planning a brachio with combo breast lift/augmentation and I've got some crepey skin on breasts and arms extending from underarm to increasingly wrinkly forearm. I'm 52. I hope I'm not too old for this. Once skin is lifted, tightened during a breast and arm lift, what is done w/skin texture? Is it at all improved w/these procedures alone? Is lasering done to improve skin during procedure or done separately? My skin quality looks like it will detract from the final result.
Answer: Skin quality You have asked a great question that should be addressed with every patients prior to surgery in my opinion. Your skin quality does not change after surgery. In fact patients with poor skin quality have less skin elasticity and surgical results are typically not as long lasting. This does not mean that you cannot have a satisfactory surgical result. You simply need to be aware that your surgeon is working with poor quality skin which will be present after the procedure as well. Best wishes.

Answer: Breast lift and brachioplasty Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. Skin laxity and crepey skin can be improved with a breast lift and brachioplasty. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: How is crepey skin dealt with during breast lift and brachioplasty? Crepey skin, characterized by thin, wrinkled, and sagging appearance similar to crepe paper, can be addressed during breast lift (mastopexy) and brachioplasty (arm lift) procedures. Here's how each procedure may help with crepey skin: 1. Breast Lift (Mastopexy): • Skin Tightening: During a breast lift, excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is tightened to lift and reshape the breasts. This tightening can help improve the appearance of crepey skin on the breasts by reducing sagging and wrinkling. • Repositioning of Breast Tissue: In addition to removing excess skin, a breast lift may involve repositioning the underlying breast tissue to create a more youthful and lifted contour. This repositioning can help smooth out crepey skin and create a firmer appearance. • Combination with Implants: In some cases, a breast lift may be performed in conjunction with breast augmentation using implants. Implants can add volume to the breasts, which may help fill out loose or crepey skin for a smoother appearance. 2. Brachioplasty (Arm Lift): • Skin Excision: During a brachioplasty, excess skin and fat are removed from the upper arms to tighten and reshape the area. The surgical excision of excess skin can significantly improve the appearance of crepey skin on the arms by eliminating the loose and wrinkled tissue. • Liposuction: In some cases, liposuction may be performed along with brachioplasty to remove excess fat deposits and further contour the arms. While liposuction primarily targets fat, it can also help improve the overall appearance of the skin by reducing excess tissue. • Scar Placement: The incisions made during brachioplasty are typically placed strategically to minimize visible scarring. Although there will be some scarring following the procedure, it tends to fade over time and can be concealed within natural creases or clothing. It's important to note that while breast lift and brachioplasty can address crepey skin to a significant extent, individual results may vary depending on factors such as skin elasticity, age, and the extent of skin laxity. Additionally, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and proper skincare, can help optimize and prolong the results of these procedures. Consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon is essential to determine the most appropriate treatment plan based on your unique needs and goals.
