I was wondering if anyone has heard of the “dual plane” technique for butt implants in which the lower third of the pocket is within the muscle, and the rest of the pocket is subfascial. I have read this technique results in decreased visibility, decreased risk of malposition, and long-term support. What do other doctors think of this, have any of you considered/done this? Thank you!
Answer: Intramuscular is ideal position The ideal position for a buttock implant is within the muscle. The gluteal maximus muscle is a thick muscle and positioning the implant intramuscular is ideal. Some surgeons place the implant subfascial but the fascia is not thick enough for the implant not to show. Underneath the muscle can lead to some possible nerve damage. Over the muscle would show too much also.Hope this was helpful. And thank you for your question.

Answer: I'd like some information on the new butt implant technique dual plane, is there less risk and visibility with these implants? I place implants within the muscle to minimize being able to feel or see them. This creates a much more natural result. The intramuscular placement also reduces the risk for capsular contracture and sciatic nerve damage. Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: “Dual plane” buttock implants? “Dual plane” for buttock implants is complete rubbish and just another marketing ploy to try to generate business without doing the right thing. The dual plane that is used for breast augmentation with implants simply does not apply nor is it effective for buttock implants. The anatomy is completely different. The only proven long-term successful pocket for buttock implants is intramuscular, period! Glad to help.

Answer: Dual Plane Buttocks Implant Technique! Thank you for your Question!Buttocks Implants Techniques have evolved over time! Subgluteal (under the muscle) was popular but had some issues with sciatic nerve pressure. Supragluteal(above the muscle ) , the implant shows too much (edges and capsules) . Subfascial (within the fascia of the muscle) was supposed to solve the supraguteal edges but never really did. The intramuscular technique is the best .This is where the muscle is separated along its fibers and the implant is placed WITHIN the muscle. This is my preferred technique because it has the benefits of subgluteal (not seeing the edges ) while protecting the nerve!
