Rhinoplasty post op day 11, columella infected? (Photo)

Question

I am on day 11 post up and I had an open rhinoplasty. My columella is healing fine however just inside my nostril the incisions on both sides seems to be scabbing over and it smells odd. Is it infected? What do I do if that's infected ? Can I use Neosporin? I admit that I did use it before but I don't think it's helping.. :(

In general, infection after rhinoplasty is very, very rare.  I have never seen it in any of my rhinoplasty patients.  From the look of things, I don't think it is infected.  However, you should definitely return and see your operating physician if you have any concerns.  Diagnosing a postoperative infection based on these photos is nearly impossible.

Dear ames8777,it is hard to tell just by looking at your photo. An examination is required to determine whether your incision is infected. If you are concerned, I would suggest you to consult your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS

Thanks for your question,It is hard to make definitive diagnosis from your pictures and without an in-person exam. I would look out for any drainage, increased redness to try and identify a possible infection. Most importantly, I would return to your surgeon and have him take a look and discuss your concerns with him.All the best
