Passive aligners retain one arch and do not move teeth, your dentist would order them if you have one arch movement completed and the other arch still in "active treatment". You must continue to wear them like you regular trays, unless otherwise told by your dentist.Best of luck!
Sometimes teeth simply need to stay put while others move, and when the others are in the new position, the stationary teeth can now move again. There is a strategy to the treatment sequence with Invisalign.
Hello there,A passive aligner keeps the teeth in place without movement. It is usually used when treatment of one arch is completed and the other arch still needs treatment. Good luck and I hope this helps. Follow me if you have more questions.Sarah Thompson, DMDSt. Louis, MO area (O'Fallon, IL)Real Self 100
A passive aligner would mean that it is not actively moving any teeth. This is a great feature as you don't have to wear your previous aligner an extra 2 weeks (or more) until the movement is active again. So, basically, you will be changing to a new set of upper and lower aligners even if no movement is happening in one of them. Best,Dr. Pam
A passive aligner in Invisalign does not cause teeth to move. Your dentist may just want you to get use to the attachments before more pressure is added. Taking the aligner on and off with the attachments on has a learning curve to it. As it gets easier the added pressure won't bother you as much. Hope that helps!
