Answer: Large front teeth with space Thank you for posting your question. You may consider Invisalign which is a way to straighten teeth in a less noticeable way. Rather then metal braces you can have clear aligners that will help to straighten the teeth. Each aligner is worn for two weeks. Every two weeks you have to change to the next sequentail aligner. You cannot eat or drink with them on. You can only drink water otherwise things will get trapped under the aligner and cause problems. The biggest advantage is that they are removable and since they are clear, generally people don't notice that you are wearing anything on your teeth and still getting treatment done. Since you do have fibrous tissue between your front teeth i would suggest having that removed prior to doing the invisalign. You don't have to close the gap completely if you don't want to. It can be worked up to still keep some spacing. As far as the size goes it may be that the teeth next to the central front teeth are too small. Changing the shape, size, or color of teeth can be done with veneers. Find a cosmetic dentist that you can talk your concerns to and they can help you find the right solution.

Answer: Large front teeth The average size of a front upper tooth is usually about 8.5X11mm--although hard to assess from the photo it would appear that the actual size of your front teeth is pretty close to normal. Because they are so far forward of the other teeth and pointing in unesthetic directions, they are very prominent which makes them seem too large.Your best option is to straighten these teeth as well as to improve the positioning and arch-form of your other teeth and balance out your smile. Certainly the gap can be maintained if that is your goal. Invisalign would be a great option for you as you head off to college. I would advise against reshaping these teeth as a short term solution as you would be losing healthy tooth structure which will never grow back. Good luck

Answer: Front teeth The position of your front teeth and the large gap between them is making the teeth appear larger. If you do decide you want to close the space, a procedure can be done to release the fibrous tissue between the front teeth. Invisalign treatment may be an option for you to close the gap while you are away at college. I would suggest a consultation with your local doctor to determine your treatment options. He or she will be able to give you more details about your bite and estimated length of treatment. Regards,Dr. Pam
