Looking for a doctor to remove silicone injections. I had injections over 6 years ago.

Thank you for your question regarding what to do with silicone removal injections. I would highly suggest you have the silicone injections and associated scar tissue removed. There are several board certified plastic surgeons who are experienced and qualified to remove silicone in the US. There is no need to travel outside of the US. I remove silicone almost on a daily basis in my practice in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The length of surgery depends on exactly which surgery is required.  Also, the length of time needed to recovery depends on exactly which surgery is required. There are two main types of silicone removal surgery: suction and excision.  Typical silicone removal surgery is done under general anesthesia and lasts for approximately 3-4 hours. You would need to stay in your chosen plastic surgeon’s city for approximately 5-7 days before returning to Tennessee. Plan on a 1-2 week recovery depending on what procedure is needed. Thank you for your question.Silicone injections in the buttock can cause ASIA syndrome.  ASIA syndrome is an acronym that stands for Autoimmune/inflammatory Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants. Adjuvants are agents (like silicone) that modify the effect of other agents (like causing scar tissue and pain).  Typically, ASIA syndrome presents about 10 years after the injection. Since ASIA syndrome was first described as recognizable medical disease in 2011, most medical doctors do not know ASIA syndrome even exists.  I specialize in treating patients with ASIA syndrome and in the removal of silicone from the buttock and subsequent reconstruction of the buttock.  I am a lead investigator and founder of the Silicone Removal Institute. Complications from silicone biopolymers, Artefill, Bellafill, PMMA, and biopolimero should be addressed by an expert in the field.  
In my practice, I specialize in the removal of Bellafill and Artefill injections, in addition to silicone biopolymers, from the face and body. Initially, treatments are non-surgical with corticosteroids and immune modulators. If unable to be corrected, we can also perform surgery in some cases. 
Patients should undergo biometric screening, clinical assessment of Karamanoukian Grade of Soft Tissue Reaction, and ultrasound examination. 
Silicone biopolymers can also be removed from the body if there are signs of migration or inflammation. All of these filler-types should be removed as early as possible.

Thank you for your question! Removing silicone injections is a very complex procedure you need to make sure you seek a board certified plastic surgeon who is very experienced in this field! The corrective options really depend on how soft the buttock tissues are now and how amenable the tissues are to contouring by liposuction, fat grafting, or buttock lifting techniques.  Best of luck!
