Is it safe to take Valtrex prior to surgery considering I'll be going under anesthesia?

I'm 5 days away from my tummy tuck and realized I completely spaced telling my surgeon about taking Valtrex for occasional herpes breakthroughs. Is it safe to take Valtrex prior to surgery considering anesthesia?

Yes, Valtrex is safe to take before surgery. However, you need to provide your surgeon with a list of all your medications and discuss it with them as well as the anesthesiologist.

some plastic surgeons recommend their patients to stop taking all medicines prior to surgery but every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

Your safety is always the number one priority in surgery.  This question needs to be asked of your surgeon as opinions can vary.  Make sure that your surgeon is aware of all medications and supplements you take including over the counter and prescription.

It should be fine to take Valtex preoperatively.  I would suggest that you  discuss this with your plastic surgeon who should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
