Corneal thickness is generally tested using an ultrasound pachymeter.  Sixteen years of age is too young for laser surgery but you may be a candidate when you are older.  Most surgeons perform LASIK or PRK on patients 22 years and older.

To find out who makes a good lasik or prk candidate please do some reading on a laser vision eye center website but ultimately every eye is very unique and only a very careful eye exam by a qualified ophthalmologist can determine if your unique eyes are good lasik candidates. take care:)

The patient asking the question is only 16 years old, so is not currently a candidate for any corneal laser procedure because the eyes can still be changing at this age. The best way for someone to find out if they are a candidate for Lasik, PRK, ICL's, Refractive Lens Exchange, Clear Lens Extraction or Cataract surgery, is to come in to the office for a thorough consultation. There is no other way to determine candidacy or predict outcomes without a good consultation.
