Round eyes after lower bleph - is this permanent? (Photo)

Question

Hello, I had upper & lower bleph 35 days ago and asked a separate question about it. Please look at my photos, as I am having alot of anxiety about my eyes. I have naturally almond shaped eyes and I love them. Now 35 days after the surgery it looks like my eyes are round and not almond shaped. It does not go with my big nose and the rest of the face, I look different. Is this going to resolve with time or is this permanent? Is it because scars pull lower eyelids down? Thank You!

I agree with your assessment that your lower lid scar is still tight.  You can massage your lower lid by opening your mouth widely and pushing up on your lower lids.  This should loosen with time and massage. I think overall your result looks good and should only improve with time.
Could take 3 months to get there so be patient.

Thanks for reaching out. I would venture to guess that you had an external lower lid blepharoplasty with skin and orbicularis muscle excision? If this is the case, a slight retraction of the lower eyelids can occur if a bit too much skin is excised. I would recommend discussing your concern with a trained eyelid plastic surgeon as sometimes this can be corrected with a lid re-positioning procedure or perhaps a small graft. Hope this helps!

The round appearance you have after your surgery appears to be secondary to inferior malposition of the lower eyelids.  This is most likely due to excision of skin and or muscle, which is tethering the tissues inferiorly.  Sometimes this can be improved with massage alone in the early postoperative period.  In severe cases revision surgery may be required.  I would recommend that you follow up closely with your surgeon for guidance.  Good luck.  Donald R Nunn, M.D. Atlanta plastic surgeon
