Allergic to dissolving stitches

There are many different suture or stitch options.  If you know the suture you had years ago that you reacted to, another one may be able to be used, that would not make the scarring worse.  Some of the older sutures did have more reactivity than newer sutures we have available now.  Also, on occasion the dissolving suture types will extrude through the skin, and although annoying, still is not a true allergy.  Best to discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon.

Hi Kristy,  reactions to sutures are very common and can sometimes create a nuance but are generally easy to deal with.  This would not prevent you from having the procedure because they are many types of sutures and some have less reactivity then others.  Please be sure to tell you surgeon during your consultation so that he or she may be aware.  

Let your surgeon know that you were allergic. However, some of the newer sutures used cause less reaction than the older ones. After the stitches are removed, scar ,like Mederma, can be very helpful to achieve nice scars.
