9 days post-op breast augmentation and my face has been a little numb; is this normal?

Thanks for the question.Its early to talk about results.In my practice, after performing a BA I recommend to my patients to limit the movement of the arms for two weeks. After that, you can move your arms taking care and always with common sense. In this regard, it's not advisable to carry heavy weights to prevent the implant out of position, and allow the formation of the physiological capsule around the implant, also to avoid pain and breast swelling.Kind regards,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol.-

Facial numbness after a breast augmentation is not common and I would mention this to your surgeon at your follow up appointment.  It may be the result of some facial swelling and as long as you are not having any significant deficits in moving the muscles of your face will likely resolve spontaneously with time.  Hope this helps.  

It is uncommon to have facial numbness after breast augmentation that is related directly to the placement of the implants. See your surgeon so he can evaluate your case. You may need to consult a neurologist.Good luck!

Usually temporary facial numbness occurs after face lifts. In my opinion your numbness could be related to a tight bra strap or placement of neck/face during your surgery among many unknown physical factors. These should all resolve with more time. Please keep a close follow up with your board certified plastic surgeon. 

I do not agree with a previous expert poster , positioning in an augmentation could caused facial numbness! I think you are having a reaction to anesthesia or a medication. Call your surgeon ASAP! 

Hi thereTo be honest, it is unlikely that there is a connection between your breast augmentation and your facial numbness.  If it were related, (OR positioning, anaesthetic agents, etc), the numbness would have been immediate.I think you should go see your primary health physician as soon as possible and have a full examination, including a neurological examination as it is more likely that there is something else going on.I hope that helps.Kind regardsDr Mark Hanikeri MBBS, FRACSPerth Specialist Plastic Surgeon

It would be helpful to know where exactly the numbness is on the face. As long as your smile is even, this might be related to positioning in the operating room and is temporary.
