Answer: Uneven after liposuction Dear Hurt48, I would have to examine you but it appears that this is a contour irregularity after liposuction. This happens often when areas the undergo liposuction are not feathered appropriately. The good news is that it can be fixed and I have done so with good results before. While there is always a chance for contour irregularities with liposuction, someone who takes their time and uses the appropriate sized cannulas should give you a superb result.I have all my patients wear compression garments and I use multiple sized cannulas to feather out the result. Answer: Fibrosis after liposuction My first question to you is was this done using a power device such as VASER? Fibrosis is the term often used by patients who have poor outcomes from Liposuction when the following combination of outcomes happened. Too much fat was removed and it was Removed in an uneven fashion. This leaves patients with very little fat and instead scar tissue in place with an uneven contour because the fat was removed unevenly. The more someone was over treated the more difficult or impossible it becomes to correct this. For those who are not over treated but the liposuction was simply done and evenly there is usually room for some improvement but often not to the point of normalcy. To get an accurate assessment he will for sure need an in person consultation. I would be Leery of providers who claim to be able to correct this easily or suggest modalities like “breaking up the scar tissue” using power devices such as VASER. Treatment options generally come down to revision liposuction, fat transfer in certain cases converting the procedure to a skin removal procedure such as a full tummy tuck. For those who have been over treated revision Liposuction is in many ways insult to injury but can make things slightly better in some cases. Fat transfer works poorly because over treated areas Now lack support of post tissue to keep the grafts alive. I would encourage you to follow up with your provider and let him or her know how you feel about the outcome. I would also encourage you to write reviews sharing your experience to prevent others from going through similar experiences. It’s possible to write respectful professional reviews while still describing what happened accurately. I’m sure you would’ve appreciated hearing other patients experiences if they had outcomes similar to your own. My best guess is that this was done using VASER with a provider who had relatively little experience using that device. Your provider needs to change how they do liposuction or simply stop doing this procedure. In regards to seeking treatments for improvement you need to rely on in person consultations. Look for experienced board-certified plastic surgeons who have extensive experience with liposuction and fat transfer procedures. Again, be careful With those who claim that this is relatively simple to fix or that they can restore you back to a normal contour. Unfortunately correcting poorly done Liposuction especially if someone has been over treated it’s very difficult and often not possible. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD Linea nova body contouring
