I am very fit, 36, 161 cm, 52 kg, no child, exercise daily and eat the best I can. My body is defined except from abs. I had a traditional lipo on my upper abs and flanks. Max amount of fat that was removed is 500g. On the sides and flanks it is ok but on my front part of the abs no fat layer was removed except from around the muscles. I need remove the actual 2 cm fat layer this time also on the lower abs next to the upper abs. Recommendations another (microcannula) lipo? Of liposculpture? Or CoolSculpting?

Answer: Fat removal options I would immediately discount cool sculpting is an inappropriate and unlikely technique to deliver high patient satisfaction. Liposculpture and micro cannula’s or sales gimmick terms that really mean nothing. Can someone please tell me where the micro cannula is? Is it a 3 mm cannula? A 2 mm cannula? Institutions like Sonobello used 4 mm cannula‘s and still called them micro cannula‘s. There is no set size or definition for what is a micro cannula. Is a spin term to make people feel like it’s somehow less invasive or easier or less likely to cause problems or perhaps give a better recovery. Surgeons use the correct size cannula for the job. This may mean at 2 1/2 mm cannula on the chin and neck, a three or 3 1/2 mm cannula on the torso etc. etc. Bigger cannulas remove more fat faster. Would you should be looking for is not a form of Liposuction but the most talented provider in your area. If you find the most talented provider then he or she will be using the best equipment in their hands. It doesn’t matter what equipment is being used if someone doesn’t know what they’re doing. They will create problems and not deliver consistent high quality outcomes. Considering the numbers of horrifically botched disfigured outcomes I’ve seen from using the energy device VASER this is the only one I would put up a big red warning sign about. There are certainly talented providers who can give consistent good results using this equipment but it seems that in the hands of the amateur or less experienced this single device causes more grotesque disfigurement than any or all forms of Liposuction put together. Always choose the surgeon not the equipment. Most of this is just spin to try to differentiate providers. That should be done by sharing the number of cases that they do in total and on an annual basis. As well as showing hundreds or preferably thousands of before and after pictures of this procedure. Please have multiple in person consultations until you feel you found the most confidence board-certified plastic surgeon in your area. There seems no solid reason why you should choose someone who isn’t board-certified plastic surgery. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
