Question

If I have capsular contractur and get a capsulectomy will it reoccur? Am I doomed to repeat this cycle? I really love having implants and don't want to go back to being flat chested. I am 5yrs post op from primary and started noticing my right breast changing 1.5yrs ago. I'm really bummed this happened. My doctor will be retiring in a year so it makes me more nervous if this happens again I'll have to find a whole new surgeon to just repeat this whole issue.

capsular contracture happens. In fact, every implant has a capsule form around it, its just a certain percentage develop thick capsules. There is a lot we don't know about it actually. Some think that bacteria that gets on the implant during insertion can increase the risk. Thats why we use a Keller Funnel in our practice to reduce that possibility. Our capsular contracture rate is less than 2% because we use a keller funnel as well as meticulous operating room techniques.

Good morning ! I would recommend going to your plastic surgeon and have them do a breast exam. Any patient that has implants will always have some sort of "capsule" because they are not natural breasts. The only time it becomes problematic is when there is pain associated with it (baker grade 4) and that is when the patient has to decide if they would want a capsulectomy with an implant exchange. There will always be slight differences between your right and left breast they will never be the same. Hope this is helpful, good luck !

You are at a higher risk, but less if you go down in size. Do not go up in size. Also, early capsules can be treated with oral Accolate and external ultrasound treatments. Late capsules are often related to infections or even dental cleanings that stir up bacteria. Be sure to take a dose of antibiotics prior to each dental visit.
