Bulging hand veins - What type of treatment is available for this?

Question

My fingers turn bright red when I am hot or nervous. I also have bulging vein on my hands and wrist. What type of treatment is available for this? It is very embarrassing and unattractive. I feel like I need to hide my hands all the time.

Thank you for your question.There are many option of treatment to rejuvenate the hand for a more youthful look in patients with prominent hand veins: microphlebectomy, sclerotherapy, endovenous laser with 400 micrometer laser. Radiesse can also be used when there is severe volume loss to disguise the veins. Treatment is individualized for optimum cosmesis.

Hand veins can easily be treated.  I use a combination of endovenous laser for the larger veins and sclerotherapy for the smaller veins.  Several sessions of sclerotherapy may be necessary but only one session of laser.  Color changes of the hand is very common and due to many factors especially heat or genetics.

Thanks for your question. What you are describing sounds like 2 different issues. The fingers changing colors sounds like a vascular issue (but does not necessarily sound like Raynaud syndrome, where the fingers turn red or purple typically when cold). The bulging vein may be concealed by having a dermal filler injected to the back of the hand. This can be done with Radiesse or a hyaluronic acid like Restylane or Juvederm. This procedure can be costly and should only be done by a licensed and trained MD or cosmetic NP who has experience in treating this area of the body with good results. Good luck!

Bulging hand veins can be very unsightly as you stated in your question. There are more than one modality of treatment that can be used in your case. There is EVLT ( endovenous laser treatment) which is a small fibre introduced inside the vein and seals the vein by producing heat. Another option is Foam sclerotherapy which is an injection that can make the vein stick together. Finally you can have phlebectomies for the convoluted veins . This is done through very small incisions that don't require stitching. All the procedures can be done under local anaesthesia as a day case. I hope you find this helpful
