A neck lift is going to potentially give a more dramatic result than Liposuction alone. It’s simply more surgery. Adding the facelift scars also comes with significant drawback. I’m not a big fan of many procedures. In a paragraph for that reason, I usually tell people to either get a proper facelift or don’t do it. In your case, you could have a very good result with Liposuction alone, but this is completely dependent on finding a plastic surgeon who approached master of the Liposuction. Most plastic surgeons do average Liposuction work. Average Liposuction results aren’t always very good. It really takes a significant amount of experience to do chin and neck Liposuction really well. It’s not just removing fat. To find the right provider or choose the correct procedure I suggest scheduling in person consultations. Always bring a complete set of facial pictures to use as a reference during the consultation. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of the before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar facial characteristics for whatever operation they recommend. A sufficiently experience provider should have no shortage of before, and after pictures to show you. This means being able to see the outcomes of 10 to 20 cases at minimum. Plastic surgeons were not good at Liposuction well often be quick to recommend a procedure where they know they can get better results. This can be true for the abdomen recommending a tummy tuck instead of Liposuction. It can be true for the neck recommending a facelift instead of Liposuction as well. Potentially a face lift with Liposuction will always be able to give a better result, but in the end, the result is based on provider selection, regardless of what combination of procedures you choose. In the hands of the right provider you’ll also be guided correctly. A plastic surgeon who has sufficient skill and experience to do quality Liposuction will have the results to prove it. Start looking at lots of before, and after pictures online of previous patients who had Liposuction alone who had similar facial characteristics to your own. When reviewing before, and after pictures, you should always have a picture of yourself to use as a reference. Patient candidacy and provider selection are the two variables to determine outcomes. You have pretty good skin and I can see some pinchable fat so I think Liposuction can create a pretty nice outcome in your case. You can always add a facelift a little later in life when it’s more appropriate. If the Liposuction isn’t done well, you’ll be left with disappointment. I suppose this is true for any procedure, but I see more variation in Liposuction results than just about any other operation. Unfortunately, too many plastic surgeons think of Liposuction as a simplistic procedure that doesn’t have much finesse. Approaching mastery of Liposuction is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who approach mastery of this procedure is in reality quite small. Finding someone who is truly exceptional at neck, Liposuction may take some looking around. It may require having quite a few more consultations. It’s your responsibility to vet providers. Doing so isn’t easier straightforward but you’ll need to do the best you can. Ask providers to show you more examples. If they don’t have lots of pictures to show you then that is a big red flag. It either means they haven’t done the procedure very much or they’re embarrassed of their average outcomes. The goal is not to see the best result of a providers career, but to get a good understanding of what average results look like for patients who had similar characteristics. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
