The photographs from the side profile demonstrate an overly projecting nose and under projecting chin. Consider placement of chin implant to augment the chin forward, and a rhinoplasty to shave down the dorsal hump and decrease the projection of the nose. A chin implant itself can be placed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. A sliding genio-plasty is performed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia in a hospital setting with an overnight stay at the hospital. The sliding genio- plasty is best performed when the teeth are significantly out of alignment. A chin implant has no bearing on alignment of the teeth and is only done for cosmetic purposes. For many examples of rhinoplasty performed in combination with a chin implant, please see the link and the video below
Hey there,Deformities arising as a result of returned chin or a hypoplastic lower jaw is correctable in many ways. First and foremost is to have a thorough cephalometric analysis to assess the deformity as well as to check occlusion. If occlusion is fine then a sliding genioplasty or a chin implant or sometimes even fat fill are options. Please consult a certified plastic surgeon for further information Hope this helps.
There are multiple options available to improve the appearance of your chin and profile. From chin implant, genioplasty (cutting chin bone), injectables, fat grafting, and liposuction. All of these options alone or in combination can help improve the appearance of one's profile. Utilizing a 3D Vetra analysis in your consultation, will be helpful for you and your surgeon to determine your aesthetic desires and then discuss which surgical options are optimal for your to achieve those results. Chin implants come in various sizes and shapes. Custom implants are also available. Your upper and lower jaw position (occlusion) is also very important when evaluating the best procedure for you. This will help determine if upper jaw surgery is needed as well.Seek consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon experienced maxillofacial surgery and facial plastic surgery. Good luck!
Chin augmentation would be help for your overbite. A sliding genioplasty would be best because it can bring your chin forward and vertically shorten it as well. Your chin is recessed but is also a little long as well.
Hi Thanks for submitting your profile pics. You have a beautiful face and very good look from the side. your lips look full and this is seen as very desirable. I also believe you have a very nice chin/lip complex. If you have an overbite I would actually ask that you be evaluated by one of my orthodontic colleagues first. Correcting this may actually make improve an already very attractive profile. If you still have a deficiency at this point I would place a very small silastic implant. I hope this helps... whatever you do don't jump in right away... when you look as good as you... think twice and cut once :-)cheersDr Ben
Dear Stefani, You may want to consider a chin augmentation combined with a rhinoplasty to provide a balanced and more feminine profile. Seek some consultations with some experts in the field and have imaging performed to show you the proposed changes. Review the surgeons before and after photographs of combined procedures similar to yours. See many examples in the link below of chin augmentations and a combined procedure in the video below. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
Be very cautious about substituting a chin surgery for a jaw surgery/corrective overbite surgery in your case. You have a 'relatively prominent/defined' chin associated with a deep labiomental fold so a chin surgery will overemphasize the chin prominence rather than balance the facial profile. A lower jaw advancement surgery is what you should pursue. Talk to an orthodontist to start.
Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years. From the photos, your chin is very weak. When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin". Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face. Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck. Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision. I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone). I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone. In my opinion, you are a good candidate for chin implant surgery. Hope this helps.
Hi cooltad,I agree that you will most likely benefit from BSSO (if you have the same look as the photo). Chin Implant alone will not correct the overbite and the lip discrepancy. Please see an orthognatic specialist for an evaluation to confirm this however.
As an implant jaw implants are as safe as chin implants. But they are harder to do from a technical standpoint and offer more aesthetic challenges in defining the right style and size of jaw angle implants for the patient aesthetic needs. In some jaw augmentation patients a custom rather than...
