My dissolvable sutures are GONE after 2 days. Will my wound dehiss? I had bilateral Blephroplasty.

Question

Blephroplasty TWO DAYS AGO, 3/4ths of sutures have dissolved!! Scared that my wounds will dehiss... Should I have Dermabond to hold them together as a precaution? My wound is smooth and looks just like there is a line where the skin comes together.. There is no scab.. He said continue my ointment.. I was a afraid it could loosen it? I'm afraid I could accidentally scratch or pull it apart.. Do you think my wound can stay together with nothing holding them at a little over 48 hours? Any recommendations?

If your incisions are together and healing well, even though the sutures are gone, I see no reason to worry.  Avoid activities which could disrupt the incisions and follow up regularly with your plastic surgeon.  Remember the incision is getting stronger every day and most peoples sutures are out in 5-6 days.  Good luck.

I understand that you are concerned about the wound coming apart.  If the stitches are not in place and the incision looks great, there is nothing to worry about.  Upper blepharoplasty incisions heal well and I agree with your current recommendations.  Keep the incision moist with ointment and let your plastic surgeon continue to watch the area to ensure that it heals correctly.I hope this helps.

Dehiscence of a blepharoplasty wound in common and it is not considered a complication.  The fact that the suture is breaking down does not imply that you will develop a wound dehiscence.  Because these heal so well and they generally occur as part of an inflammatory response, it is best to not resuture the wound but rather to let the process run its course.  You can see what your surgeon recommends.  Not every surgeon manages these the same way.  I would recommend observation.
