Can cleft chin asymmetry be corrected?

Asymmetry of the genial tubercles is not uncommon and is the case of chin cleft asymmetry. This can be confirmed by an x-rays which would show the bony shape differences in the height of these bony prominences. This type of chin asymmetry can be corrected by reduction or augmentation of the asymmetric genial tubercle.

Dear Totecquile, In my extensive expertise in this field I have seen a lot of patients with your same concerns and each patient is handled differently depending on certain factors determined at examination. First of all, if the patient has an asymmetric cleft and also has a receding chin then a custom chin implant can be made taking into consideration the asymmetry. In patients who do not have a receding chin then yes the bone can be shaved down however I am not a big proponent of this technique due to the incision and possible scar contraction.
