Thanks for your question. I would recommend waiting 2-3 months or 6-8 weeks before going in a Jacuzzi or body of water, even if it seems that all wounds are closed. Any bodies of water that contain bacteria can result in infection, which is best to be prevented. Speak with your surgeon for additional advice. Best wishes and enjoy your summer, Dr. JSB
I would recommend speaking to your surgeon before doing any type of bathing activity since they are aware of your healing progress. I advise my patients to wait until there are no open wounds (even tiny ones), which can be 3-4 weeks after the procedure. Once everything is healed I still recommend avoiding vigorous swimming or other strenuous exercise for 4-6 weeks.
Jacuzzis and pools contain large amounts of water loving bacteria such as Pseudomonas and Aeromonas, which tend to be very difficult infections to treat, and often are multi drug resistant. For that reason, I do not allow my patients to swim or hot tub for a full 6 weeks after surgery, and there cannot be any visible breaks in the skin (no crusting, sutures spitting, etc). However, this question is best addressed directly to your surgeon, as there often are slight differences of opinion in terms of postoperative regimens. Be sure to get clearance directly from him before getting in a hot tub. There is probably no more dangerous water for an incision that hot tub water. How tubs contain Poikliotherms, which is warm temperature loving bacteria like Pseudomonas aeruginosa. That is a particularly bad organism to get into a wound. Make certain you have the blessing of your plastic surgeon before you go into Water containing Pseudomonas.
i do usually recomend normal bath from 15 to 20 days after surgery,...giving the advice to do the first "showers" with some "sterilized" water, like the one in the drinking water jugs. But submerge into the jacuzzi will be better tomdomit after the 6th week post op.Dr. Carrasco
It looks like you have some fat necrosis in your incision. Unfortunately, this is a problem that happens from time to time. Your incision will likely open some more and your surgeon will do bedside wound care to help keep the wound clean. This will take several weeks with dressing changes to...
The exact age of a surgical patient is not as important as their overall health. An active woman with no medical problems can be a better candidate for such a surgical procedure than someone half her age with multiple poorly controlled medical issues. Since this is an elective "unnecessary"...
Thanks for your question.Clindamycin is commonly prescribed as a post-operative antibiotic for patients with a penicillin allergy. I hope this helps!Dr. JSB
