I had the clots extruded yesterday after sclerotherapy, but still have 3 clots that I can feel.Don't they usually do ultrasound?

I can still feel bumps-is this normal? Will my body get rid of them? I told the Dr. there still were two lumps and he put gloves back on/reinserted the needle. I think he missed 2 original injection sites, because he didn't feel a bump. Later at home, I felt bumps in the spots he took out and ones he didn't touch. Calling to sched an ultrasound next week since they won't be open. It's a larger vein-halfway up thigh and down to shin area--last year did venefit. Now ankle swollen from wraps above.

It is not uncommon for larger veins to become firm and lumpy after injection. If the lumps are painful it should be drained as it appears you already had done. You may just have to give it a little longer but if the pain persist, sometimes a second look and more drainage is necessary.  In the meantime warm compresses and NSAIDS like ibuprofen may help.  Also, make sure the wraps are not acting like a tourniquet.  It is best to wear graduated compression stockings so the entire leg is adequately compressed and you avoid swelling like you describe.

It sounds like your Dr. Preformed an aspiration of “ trapped blood “ to help with the speed of recovery. The lumps will resolve over time and I would recommend wearing a medical grade compression stocking that goes over entire foot, not just above ankle . Your ankle swelling will go away.

It is very common to develop hard areas following a closure procedure or sclerotherapy.  These are do to trapped blood and often times they may need t be evacuated (drained).  I use a 20 G needle.  Your body will absorb these over time but if they hurt you the they an be drained.  Sometimes more than one drainage is necessary.  Wet heat to the areas and ibuprofen will also help.

It is 100% normal to have some lumps and bumps after injection therapy. If they are painful or last longer than 4-6 weeks, they should be drained. Sometimes we need ultrasound guidance to help us do the drainage. If you still feel them a week or two after being drained, they may need to be drained again. Some patients need to be drained 2x.
