Tummy tucks can be safely be performed in diabetics with minimal increase in complications as long as the diabetes is in good control, and the patients are otherwise healthy. I do not think there is an absolute number for the A!C level that is acceptable, but it should certainly be in the 7 range.
Great question. The ideal number is below 7. Thank you for your question.Best wishes and kind regards,Gary Horndeski M.D.
Thanks for the question. In my practice I recommend to have a A1c level lower than 6.5 but without an endocrinologist or a professional in diabetic patients consent or approval i don't perform the surgery to avoid unnecessary risks. Kind regards, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol.-
Thank you for the question. I require my patients to have their glucose < 110 and HbA1C levels < 6. This decreases the risk of infection and post operative healing complications. Please see a board certified plastic surgeon who performs a high volume of these procedures. Good Luck!
You have to tell you that safety is priority in order to avoid deadly complications.Your glucose levels must be normal and the A1C 5.7Be encouraged.Dr. Cardenas
I appreciate your question.Your sugar levels would need to be well controlled and you would also need to be cleared for elective surgery by your Endocrinologist. A high HbA1c puts you at a risk for infection post operatively. The best way to assess and givetrue advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certifiedplastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative plastic surgery.Best of luck!Dr. Schwartz
Thank you very much for your question. There really isn't an "absolute cutoff" for A1C levels. The lower they are, the less likely you are to have wound trouble or infections, but there isn't an established upper limit that would prevent you from having the surgery. I recommend a consultation with a plastic surgeon to discuss the surgery, and then make sure you have clearance from your endocrinologist regarding the plan for monitoring and treating your sugars around the time of the operation. Best of luck!
Hello, in order for you to go through any procedure, you must visit your endocrinologist to have your diabetes under control. Good luck.
Plastic surgeons defer diabetes control to endocrinogists and internists who are managing you. It is the control and not absolute numbers that matter.
A1C reflects your blood sugar control over the last few months. It is more important to have normal or near normal blood sugars around the time of surgery. Your diabetes doctor and surgeon will need to work together to find the right time for you.
I would gop see a plastic surgeon and he may have to write to your insurance company to see if they will pay for this. They should at least pay for the hernia repair.
I typically tell patients they can shower 2 days after tummy tuck surgery. All of the wounds can get wet and the goal is to gently clean the wounds with soap and water to help wash away any skin bacteria. I would not recommend soaking in a tub or swimming.
Having a one finger breath distance between your abdominal muscles is great and you should be commended for exercising appropriately. Your main issue is skin and not really fat removal or muscle repair. That being said you have a few options. One is for non surgical skin tightening- I have a...
