Historically, one of the best treatments for acne scars has been fractionated erbium (ProFractional laser). We have used that laser for about 6 years with great success. Now, for the past 15 months, we have been using the Halo laser. We are getting better results with fewer treatments. I would highly recommend the Halo laser for acne scarring. The Halo can be used to treat acne scarring. Usually, deeper scarring will require a more aggressive laser resurfacing treatment. We do have patients that opt for multiple treatments of the Halo over a deep laser resurfacing because they cannot afford to have the downtime. It is always best to consult with a provider that can evaluate your concerns and recommend the most effective treatment.
The halo is not a bad choice for acne scarring but I find you really need a combination of treatments to get the best results. I suggest seeing an acne scarring expert for an evaluation. Best, Dr. Emer.
We have had the pleasure of excellent reduction in acne scars in as few as 1-2 treatments. When other therapies like PRP or microneedling or laser light is also used periodically, you get more profound reduction in acne scars. The most common observation our patients report is that it is so much easier to apply makeup even after their first Halo treatment. Please note that results are not immediate and may take months and multiple treatments. Halo also helps with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation often found commonly present in our acne scar patients. This treatment is safe in all skin types. You have made a good choice. Best results and best wishes, Dr B
Halo does work for acne scars, but will require several treatments. I usually reserve Halo for patients who have mild/moderate acne scars and for those who are reluctant to experience much downtime. For those who have the skin type and the desire for aggressive treatments we typically will move on the ProFractional laser treatments. The beauty of any fractional treatment whether it is Halo, PRoFrax or even microneedling, is that the more you do, the better the results. The deeper and more aggressive the treatment, the fewer treatments needed.
Halo is an excellent choice for acne scarring and in combination with SkinPen or other micro-needling devices can drastically reduce the appearance of acne scarring by building up the collagen beneath the scars. The best results will be seen in superficial to medium depth acne scars. Deep acne scars will still show some improvement but may need further laser therapy, dermabrasion or excision for the best results. For the limited downtime associated with Halo it is a great treatment.
The Halo has really changed the game for certain types for acne scarring. While deeper scars may still require a more aggressive, or ablative, treatment, many rolling types of scars are really responding quite well to Halo treatment. What makes Halo amazing is that it's performed with a topical numbing agent (not injected numbing medicine) and there is no bleeding involved. Other then some redness and swelling, there isn't much to it. The results I am seeing are quite impressive.
Halo treatments are very comfortable treatments but you will experience 'the burn' once the treatment is complete. This is when the topical anesthesia has worn off but the Halo columns of injury or 'mends' have not closed over yet. We only recommend a pure Hyaluronic Gel for the first 24 hours ...
Everyone feels 'the burn' after a Halo Treatment. Even though Halo is considered a 'cool' laser there is tissue injury in those columns we call 'MENDS'(microscopic endothelial necrotic debris) and there is exposure of deep tissue to surface elements. Both of these cause some inflammation w...
Hi and thank you for your question! Yes, we do see pinpoint bleeding after the Halo. This is depending on the depth & density of the treatment, as well as the each individual patients skin. For example, someone with a lot of existing sun damage, often has thicker and more tough skin, these...
