How do you measure a unit of Botox in the metric system? Having problems in Italy where they charge by the area.

The dosage of Botox is measured in units.  This is the same in all measuring systems.  If you had 5 units of Botox in the United States, and 5 units in Italy, it would be the same.  Your injector in Italy may be using a different technique but if you tell them how many units you had before, they can use the same amount.  

A unit is still a unit. Botox is only sold by the unit from the distributor. Try a different clinic, or request for a specific unit dosage. It may take a wile for you to find your perfect injector. Keep looking! 

First, the best advice is to call your practitioner in LA and get the record of how much and where the botox went.  That much of a difference between the 2 sides for the crows feet is unusual. With the information from your doctor's office, your Italian doctor should be able to accommodate. In terms of conversion internationally, there is none. A Botox Unit is actually a little bit nebulous as it is not measurement like a milligram, inch, or mL, but rather a regulated amount by the Allergan company. It should be identical in California to Italy, as long as you are using the same product. Good luck!

Botox dose is measured in units rather than by weight. Since the amount contained in one container is so minute that expressing it as a weight (for example in grams or milligrams) would require anbimpossibly long label to accommodate for dozens of zeros after decimal point.The charges per unit or per area have their monetary implications. Doctors in  Europe have been using, in general, much lower doses to achieve very natural results. Charging per unit in many instances would not justify the time involved in the appointment. Thanks for the question.  A unit is a unit is a unit no matter where you are.  Paying for Botox per area vs paying per unit may have financial implications but it shouldn't have any effect on results.  If you don't like your results I would seek out another provider!  Ask a few of your friends that get Botox in Milan who there provider is and if they like them.... Even if the providers aren't as good there, I bet the red sauce on fresh pasta is amazing.

A unit of Botox is a measure of its biologic potency and has nothing to do with metric measurements.  A vial of Botox comes as 100 dry units.  Your doctor must add saline to the vial in order to inject it.  Different injectors use different amounts of saline and this is a matter of personal preference.  What matters is not the volume injected, because this can vary based on the dilution, but the number of units.  A unit of Botox in the US is the same as a unit of Botox in Europe.Regards,Dr. Ort

Units of Botox are the same all over the world. Pricing Botox by the area is, unfortunately, not very common in the US, but is the best way to price it. It allows the expert injector to treat the area with the amount of Botox necessary to achieve the desired result. This is how I charge and it allows me to sell results, not just a product. If no one has "gotten it right," it is not the fault of the charge method, it is the injector. Keep searching until you find a true expert injector. Also, you change as you age and what you require may change.
