Hi I had sclerotherapy 10 days ago and now have a cluster of new bluish veins. Is this matting? Any chance that this will go away? Thanks!
Answer: Sclerotherapy and New Veins Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution directly into those visible veins, and while they will begin to close immediately, full results won’t be seen until after a 12-16 weeks when the body has enough time to eat up of the vein. However, compression garments are an important part of after care. I recommend following up with your doctor about your concerns.

Answer: Too soon to tell I have reviewed the picture and the timeline. I will agree that it looks more like post inflammatory changes than blushing at this time. Looking closely you can see the closed reticular veins underneath. It would help to see the before picture with the current picture. Do you have a picture that shows the progress?

Answer: After Sclerotherapy treatment Please always follow up with your treatment provider and vein specialist if there is any concern. Also, follow the post procedure instructions for proper healing. For Sclerotherapy treatment performed on spider veins, it could look worse or darker before it looks better. While sclerotherapy can help improve the appearance of spider veins (typically takes 4-6 weeks to see full results), new veins can appear if the underlying problem is not addressed. Our recommendation would be to make an appointment with a vein specialist for further evaluation. Regarding matting, treated areas may cause micro veins to appear, this is a known side effect that can be treated with another sclerotherapy session. It is important to follow up with the vein specialist to make sure you are properly healing and there are no complications from the treatment. All the best!

Answer: Too early for matting This is inflammation commonly associated with sclerotherapy post treatment. 2 weeks afterwards, things usually look their worst and then improve from there. You may continue to improve for up to 3 months.

Answer: Post sclerotherapy. Spider veins will typically look worse before they get better. That does not appear like typical telangiectatic matting. One way to tell is to compress the veins lightly and if they blanche then there is still blood flow and they are unlikely to go away. Either way, I typically advise waiting 6 weeks before treating an area again as your results will continue to improve up until that time.
