Is it ok to sit on sleeping pillow and not bbl pillow while driving 3 weeks after BBL surgery?

Just had a BBL a week ago and I am following post op directions per my doctor on not driving for 3 weeks but after 3 weeks when I start driving he said I can sit on a sleeping pillow not a bbl pillow should this pillow still be placed under my thighs? Can I directly sit on it? I have a bbl pillow as well and I told them but they said a regular pillow will be just fine. I just don’t want to mess anything up.

Follow your PS's post-operative protocols; sit with a pillow that offloads the pressure onto the posterior thighs.  Driving is much worst than sitting as pushing on the accelerator or brake involves pushing back against the buttocks and lower back.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

You should wait at least 2 weeks before sitting without a support cushion and sleeping on your back. Sitting with no support too soon can harm the newly moved fat cells.

Thank you for your question. Every surgeon will have his/her own preferences as to recovery for specific procedures. Postoperatively, no specific position is indicated and we do not have any sitting restrictions.  The pressure caused by sitting is not sufficient to affect viability of the fat cells and so the postsurgical position depends basically on comfort and any other operations that have been performed.

Thank you for your question.  I would follow your surgeons protocol.  Pressure off-loading is recommended to my patients for a month after surgery.   A BBL pillow first and then a pillow under the thighs to offload the buttock.  Best of luck with your recovery.

Each surgeon has a slightly different post op protocol, so you should follow your surgeon's instructions. I recommend my patients to use a BBL pillow two weeks after surgery for short durations under the thighs.
