Flying from Florida back to Michigan
Answer: Do you think flying 2.5 hours home 4 days after BBL surgery would be too risky and painful? Could it ruin the transfer? Hello dear!! Thanks for the question and provided information as well. I recommend my patients to wait at least 10 days before flying back home, and you should not sit for more than 30 mins. every two hours, for the first 2 weeks, and always with the help of a boppy pillow. If you have any concerns, I suggest you follow up close with your plastic surgeon. Hope this is helpful. Good luck :)

Answer: Traveling for surgery and flying after Brazilian As a general statement it's usually advantageous to stay local for surgical procedures.Traveling for cosmetic surgery has become commonplace.Either to be in the hands of someone perceived as an expert or for discounted pricing. The potential drawbacks are obvious. The lack of follow up, possible complications and the abandonment and taking care of them as well as the logistics and cost of travel. on the other side of the spectrum. There are plastic surgeons who are truly sub specialized and have proven superior talent in certain procedures. I have a fair number of patients who come from out of town to have procedures.I encourage patients to look for local talent but will generally not scare someone away if they want me to help with their procedure if it seems reasonable. there are a few concerns about traveling and flying soon after a Brazilian. Perhaps the biggest concern is the need to sit on the treated area for several hours after the procedure. Most plastic surgeons will encourage the patient to not put pressure on the treated area for many weeks after the procedure. I personally believe the first 2 to 2 1/2 weeks are the most important in terms of not disrupting The new blood supply that is growing into the grafted tissue. This is particularly sensitive between the second and the seventh day. PNE growth of capillaries into the grafted tissue is called neovascularization. This process starts about two days after the procedure and continues for several weeks. If there is a disruption of these capillaries in the early phase of healing the grafted fat may not survive.Grafted tissue typically needs to have a direct delivery of oxygen by seven or eight days to survive. Another potential concern is the risk of developing a blood clot's from flying after surgery. Both surgery and long flights are risks for developing blood clots. To put things in perspective Airline travel is usually broken into short and long distance flights. Most people consider flights Lestan six hours to have a little risk developing blood clots. Lastly is the ability to have follow-up after surgery. Many patients will have questions or concerns, potential complications or need revision surgery. All of these become more complex with geographic distance. In regards to your specific case you need to discuss this with your plastic surgeon to see what he or she has to say.Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
