My butt is really out of proportion for me and I’d like to make it smaller. A few surgeons have said they don’t do lipo on the butt because it would droop- are there any other alternatives?
Answer: Understanding Buttock Reduction Options Hi intellectual764854, Thank you for your inquiry about ways to reduce buttock size. The size and shape of your buttocks are influenced by three key factors: skin, fat, and muscle. Addressing one or more of these components can lead to the desired size reduction. Muscle: If muscle bulk contributes to the size of your buttocks and you engage in exercises like stair climbing or squats that target this area, it would be advisable to halt these activities. Fat: Should excessive fat be the primary cause, two approaches are available: Liposuction: It entails fat removal by suction. The success of this procedure partly hinges on the inherent elasticity of your buttock skin to shrink back once the fat is removed. Several factors, including genetics, skin quality, age, the history of weight changes, and the amount of fat extracted, determine the skin's retraction capacity. It's crucial to note that the exact degree of skin retraction post-procedure can be unpredictable. Direct Excision: This method provides a more predictable outcome, as it involves direct removal of both skin and fat. Various incisions are possible, but for a true buttock lift, an incision across the top of the buttock is most effective. Skin: Removing excess skin and achieving a buttock lift necessitates surgical intervention. The most common procedure entails excising skin from the upper part of the buttock, which simultaneously elevates it. Recommendation: Buttock liposuction may be an optimal starting point. However, it's essential to acknowledge the possibility that the skin might not fully retract after the procedure, leading to some laxity. If ensuring skin tautness is paramount and you are open to having a surgical scar, then a buttock lift through incision could be the ideal choice. I hope this sheds light on the methods available for buttock reduction. Wishing you the best as you decide on the most suitable option. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Unhappy with Buttocks The photograph you submit, it does not show anything that’s connected to the buttocks, but it does show an individual who has some saddlebags. Perhaps this is what’s bothering you. Saddlebags can easily be reduced by means of liposuction with safe, natural and permanent results. Definitely NO sagging. I hope this helps and good luck from New York City Plastic Surgery.

Answer: Buttocks reduction I don’t think your buttocks are just proportionately large. I do think that your thighs are large and your body is bottom heavy because of it. The actual buttocks looks very proportionate and I don’t see the need to reduce your buttocks but doing circumferential thigh liposuction may be very appropriate. Delivering consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people believe it. Patient should be very selective when it comes to choosing providers for liposuction procedures. Being board-certified and plastic surgery with an overall good reputation and years of experience does not mean that someone has mastered liposuction. To find the right provider patients should have multiple in person consultations. I recommend starting with at least five consultations and consider scheduling more if needed. Poorly done Liposuction can lead people disfigured. Poor Liposuction results are also very difficult to improve upon it and sometimes that is not possible. Lower extremity liposuction is technically more difficult both in regards to doing the procedure and in regards to making an assessment and predicting accurate outcomes. During each in person consultation ask providers to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of lower extremity liposuction. As providers to show you specifically pictures of previous patients with similar body characteristics to your own. Sufficiently experienced surgeon should have no difficulty showing you at least 50 sets of before and after pictures of commonly performed procedures. Lower extremity liposuction is not as common as liposuction of the abdomen or torso but it is not an unusual procedure. It’s important to assess multiple variables like skin laxity. The potential outcome for lower extremity Liposuction at various significantly from patient to patient based on skin quality. Even slight skin laxity contribute significantly to the contour of lower extremities. It is possible to do Liposuction of the buttocksid but as you mentioned it is a very unusual procedure. There is a lot of connective tissue in the buttocks and the fat in that part of the body is different than all other parts of the body because of it. It does not mean Liposuction can’t be done. Personally I question the indication of her gluteal liposuction and based on your pictures think you should consider thigh reduction as a more appropriate procedure. Be more selective than you think you need to be at when it comes to Liposuction. Being able to make accurate assessments and accurately deliver consistent results and lower extremity liposuction is not some thing all plastic surgeons can do equally well. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
