Age 32, male, do you recommend Laser vs Vaser lipo for flanks & abdomen? (Photos)

Dear all, I’m a 32 year-old man aiming to remove excess fat from flanks and abdomen, ideally minimizing dowtime. As far as I’ve read, I appear to be suitable for laser or vaser liposuction. What do you recommend for my case? Thank you

Thank you so much for your question. It really depends on your goals. If you aim to remove maximum fat from the abdomen and waist with minimum trauma, vaser liposuction is suitable for you. However, vaser liposuction is not an application that creates tightness in the skin. If you want to create tightness in the skin, I recommend combining Laser Liposuction or Renuvion application after Vaser Liposuction.

For your condition, not just limited area but whole abdomen fat can be removed then vaser liposuction is more suitable. Of course checking the amount of subcutaneous fat is required. However, even with vaser liposuction, for some clinics (like us) allow patients to go back within 4~5 days after surgery with using skin bond.

You seem to be a good candidate for liposuction based on the photos you posted. I personally think money would be better spent on Renuvion or Bodytite on the abdomen to tighten up the moderate amount of loose skin you will likely have after they perform liposuction. Laser liposuction doesn't really add anything, and Vaser is great, but definitely not necessary in your case.

There is a lot of confusion about various types of Liposuction.
The simplest answer to your question is that the form of liposuction makes virtually no difference and who does the procedure makes all the difference in the world.
In the end there are only two variables that matter. They are probably of equal importance. The first is your individual candidacy for the procedure and the second is who does the operation.
Plastic surgeons have the tools they need to do their job.
Do you choose your mechanic based on if they use snap on tools?
Do you buy bread from a bakery because of the type of oven they have?
The spin on various forms of liposuction is purely based on individual providers trying to differentiate themselves in a competitive market place. they spin the device as being an important component or variable and equated with quality results.
This simply is not true.
The emphasis should never be on the equipment but on the provider.
When providers spend over $100,000 on a new piece of equipment they’re often highly motivated to recoup some of that investment.
They do so by claiming the device they purchased is superior to all the other ones.
All forms of liposuction still use exactly the same thin stainless steel tube connected to a source a vacuum that’s been done for the last 40 years.
The different modalities of liposuction are generally related to a secondary treatment done either immediately before or immediately after liposuction either with a laser or an ultrasound probe when it comes to laser liposuction a.k.a. smart Lipo or VASER. 
Lasers add virtually nothing to the outcome. What a way to determine the value of surgical equipment or how desirable it is is to see how much it sells for on eBay.
Secondhand first generation laser liposuction equipment can be had for 1 to 2% of the original retail price.
VASER holds its value much better and these devices typically sell secondhand for around $25,000.
Of the two VASER has the potential for having a greater impact.
That does not make it a better device.VAS ER can remove more fat in last time.
That may be advantageous for the surgeon who can complete the operation faster.
It also leads to higher complication rates and this has been proven and is not contested.
In the hands of providers relax efficient skill and experience patient can also be disfigured quickly and effectively by the same device.
It’s hard to come up with a good analogy but if we were to use cars as an analogy you can think of a Porsche turbo as perhaps not being a great car for a student driver.
Most plastic surgeons have spent many years doing surgery including years doing liposuction.
That said, a substantial number of board-certified plastic surgeons in an overall good reputation are not particularly good at delivering consistent quality liposuction results.
The ability to make accurate assessments and deliver predictable results as depicted by showing numerous accurate before and after pictures on a consistent basis it’s far more difficult than most people believe and the number of plastic surgeons who can do this well consistently is relatively small.
Doing liposuction well on a consistent basis is far more difficult than most people believe and this definitely includes a large number of plastic surgeons.
The procedure and its outcome should be considered permanent and irreversible.
When done poorly people are left disfigured.
Poor outcomes from badly that Liposuction are difficult and often not possible to correct.
Disfigurement is highly associated with aggressive techniques removing far too much fat and doing so in an uneven manner.
Skill and experience it’s also required and making an accurate assessment and the ability to predict accurately exactly what each person‘s results will look like.
As efficiently skilled and experienced surgeon should be able to look at you, examine you then turn to their portfolio of before and after pictures and find numerous previous examples of patients with very similar body characteristics and show you exactly what your results will look like.
I personally view the torso as a single anatomic units and generally treat the entire torso when doing liposuction. for a male tour so I typically recommend treating the chest, upper abdomen, lower abdomen, love handles, waist and under arm areas(armpits). I’m female torsos I include treating the entire back. Leaving fat on the back of women creates a wedge shape and is more of a masculine traits. and men I focus instead and removing the fat aggressively along the edge of the latissimus dorsi muscle to the lateral edge of the pectoralis and oblique muscles. The bag can be included but many men don’t have much fat on their back so sometimes I treated and sometimes I don’t.
By treating the entire torso as a single anatomic unit people are left without transition zones between treated and untreated areas.
Areas with substantially less subcutaneous fat have a fairly different appearance than if the fat layer is thicker. In order to not look like you’ve had a partial liposuction the procedure needs to be done correctly and this includes treating the torso as a single anatomic unit.
For this one I do have a good analogy which is painting the house. If you’re going to pay the house you should probably paint all the walls and paint them the same color.
The two areas where Liposuction can sometimes fail in delivering the results people had hoped for on a male torso is specifically the chest and love handles. The chest can be affected by slight skin laxity and the existence of any glandular breast tissue if present. Love handles can be highly influenced by even mild skin laxity.
I always ask all patients interested in Liposuction if they’ve had a history of weight fluctuations.
Men who fluctuated more than 30 pounds are likely to have developed some skin laxity on their trunk and this will show and the love handles.It’s the one area that will not go away from successful weight loss.
The reason is that the contour is highly dependent on skin laxity and love handles can be directly related to skin laxity much more access subcutaneous fat.
It’s very important to differentiate how much skin laxity is contributing on that part of the body to know exactly what type of results patients should expect.
Furthermore I generally do not bring in the waist substantially on men because it’s a feminizing maneuver.
I go easy on the area just above the love handles and treat the love handles aggressively as well as the front of the torso.
I recommend you completely drop thinking about equipment and instead focus all your efforts on finding the most talented and experience provider.
Start by scheduling at least five consultations preferably more.
All consultations should be done as in person consultations avoiding virtual consultations whenever possible.
Familiarize yourself with quality male torso liposuction before and after pictures
When reviewing pictures online look very carefully at the before pictures to make sure the patients have similar body characteristics to your own in regards to approximate age, amount of body fat and skin laxity.
Detecting skin laxity requires a careful eye but if you look for it you’ll begin to see it.
Once you have a good idea of what quality results look like on a previous patient who had similar characteristics to your own then create a grading or rating system for quality results.
Looked very carefully at all the areas I’ve mentioned above when looking at results don’t just look at the areas that bother you or the ones that show the greatest improvement.
Each area should be assessed in regards to its outcome.
Look very carefully for skin contour irregularities. There should be none.
Always bring pictures of your own torso with you during consultations and use that as a reference for comparison when reviewing before and after pictures. do you need one more picture taken from you showing your body from the side.
During each in person consultation ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures.
Being shown a handful of preselected images which most likely represent the best results of the providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like or how many of these procedures anyone surgeon has actually performed.
Ask the surgeon specifically to only show you pictures of other patients who are very similar body characteristics to your own. Bring pictures of your own body and use those as a reference when you’re comparing.
Some men are exceptionally good candidates for Liposuction and while others may not be.
Well pictures are helpful and examination is necessary to make an accurate assessment.
It’s also critically important to understand if men have had any history of weight fluctuations.
If so how many pounds or kilograms?
Ask the provider to show you examples of excellent outcomes, average outcomes and outcomes that did not turn out as well as they had hoped for.
Providers may be apprehensive to show you anything other than their best results.
Insist on seeing a variety of outcomes including outcomes that did not turn out as well as the provider had hoped for. Recognize that you are paying for the operation and you have a right to vet that provider and get confirmatory information to make an intelligent decision.
For reference a highly experienced surgeon should have no difficulty showing you at least 50 sets of before and after pictures of commonly performed procedures like abdominal liposuction.
Providers will have many more examples of female liposuction results than male results.
Do not let them show you pictures of female liposuction results.
Women have a completely different fat distribution than men and results do not convey across the genders.
A typical ratio for Women to men for having abdominal liposuction is approximately 20 to 1. 
Highly experienced surgeons should have hundreds or even thousands of before and after pictures of commonly perform procedures. For male liposuction they may not have 50 but they should be able to show you a minimum of 20 sets before and after pictures.
Look very carefully at all areas treated and asked the surgeon specifically what areas were treated and what areas were not treated. look carefully at transition zones between treated and untreated areas.
Is there any skin and contour irregularities seen on any picture?
Create a rating system and give a score for each of the pictures shown and make notes of how many before and after pictures each provider showed you.
You should also make a note about the thorough Ness of the rest of the consultation including medical history, preparation for surgery, recovering from surgery, discussing risks and benefits, alternative procedures, revision rate and revision policy etc. etc. etc.
Most people do not have a lot of experience consulting with plastic surgeons. on the other hand plastic surgeons have years of experience offering consultations.
The impact of having a permanent irreversible body changing procedure is very important.
Do not cut corners when it comes to vetting plastic surgeons.
When in doubt slow down and schedule more consultations.
Do not be sold on Hiep regarding any equipment or technology as being superior to anything else when it comes to this operation.
Anyone who is selling you on the equipment is the wrong surgeon.
Look at each provider‘s website and look at how many male torso liposuction and results they have posted on their website.
You can use that as a starting point for which ones you put on the list to have consultations with.
Whenever possible try to stay local for elective surgical procedures.
Avoid virtual consultations.
Consult with more surgeons than you think you ever needed to.
You’ll get better at the process with more practice.
Recognize that once the procedure is done you’re stuck with that outcome.
You’ve done poorly it’s almost impossible to improve on the outcome.
There is more variation in liposuction results than any other plastic surgery procedure.
Delivering consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people believe and a substantial number of plastic surgeons are not particularly good at Liposuction.

From your photos, I note moderate fullness of your abdomen, flanks, and hips associated with a degree of skin laxity.
Liposuction involves removal of fat through small pipes (cannulas) placed under the skin under extreme vacuum after pretreatment with an infusion of solution containing a blood vessel constrictor (to prevent bleeding) and an anesthetic (if performed awake). Augmented liposuction utilizes laser energy or ultrasonic energy to semiliquify the fat, making it easier to remove and adds a subtle skin tightening effect.
Liposuction is a reshaping procedure and not a weight loss procedure. 
In general, the experience of the surgeon is far more important than the type of instrument utilized.
I recommend you visit a plastic surgeon with considerable liposuction experience and allow him / her to use the instrument with which he / she feels most comfortable.
