Cheekbone reduction is a very real and effective surgery that is perfectly safe. Like all cosmetic surgeries, however, it is not complication free. The most common aesthetic sequelae with the loss of cheek bone support and the elevation of the subperiosteal cheek flaps to do the procedure is soft tissue sagging that may become apparent six to 12 months after the surgery. This does not happen to everyone but is a risk in any facial surgery where bone reduction is done.
Hi, sadly they are indeed real. You can do a quick search on this site and the internet to see the issues patients have following this aggressive type of surgery. There are real and significant ramifications for each of the procedures that you mentioned and these don't include the invasive "jaw shaving" procedure that is also being performed. I have performed many facial shaping procedures using dermal fillers, silastic facial implants (cheek, chin), liposuction and/or facelifts for over 30 years. Following my beauty principles, women look the most feminine, youthful and attractive with heart shaped faces. Heart shaped faces have cheeks that are full and round in the front. Cheek augmentation with a dermal filler or using cheek implants for a permanent enhancement will create full, round cheeks that will feminize the entire face. Conversely, men look chiseled and handsome with angularity in the cheeks, chin and mandibular angles. Thankfully, there are far less invasive and in my experience and humble opinion far more effective and reliable methods of shaping the face than reducing the bony skeleton of the face. Hope this helps.
