Is it possible to correct a flat forehead and flat cheeks? (photo)

Question

The image below was traced over a photo of me. My forehead is completely flat (no visible glabella) and my nasion bone is very depressed. My cheeks are flat as well, and my chin is receded. Is there any surgery that could fix this permanently? Would implants work for these problems?

Volume and contouring of the face can be improved with well-placed fillers (Voluma, Radiesse, Bellafill) and Sculptra. Fat or implants are alternatives. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Without photos and in-person evaluation it would be impossible to give you more accurate plan of treatment. In general, shaping of the forehead can be achieved with combination of contouring with a burr and augmentation with bone, HA material, fat grafting, etc. Shaping (augmentation) of the cheeks, jaw and chin can be achieved with implants. In your case, a consultation with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon with good experience in facial implants and/or cranio-facial surgery should be your next step. Good luck.

Both implants and fillers in the cheeks can create good results for patients.  Both can build up the cheeks and create symmetry.  You must balance the pros and cons of each procedure and do what you feel is the best decision for you.
Fillers:
Pros: No downtime Reversible Quick
Cons: Temporary More expensive in long run
Implants Pros: Permanent Great for patients with poor bone structure Less expensive overtime
Negative: Risks associated with surgery Possible infection Downtime

The best method to correct a flat forehead is with.a custom made implant from the patient's 3D CT scan where the location and dimensions of the desired augmentation can be preoperatively controlled. Cheek augmentation is most commonly done with standard styles and sizes but can also be done in a custom fashion based on the patient's desired dimensional changes.

Hi Sara,You are a good candidate for cheek and chin implants, if you would like them. I recommend consulting with a board certified Facial Plastic Surgeon. You could have multiple procedures done at once if you wanted to. Be sure to ask for computer imaging so that you can get a visualization of the changes on yourself prior to the surgery. Also, during the consultation the surgeon can show you different sized facial implants and lay them over your face to get an idea of what they look like. If you want more changes, such as a rhinoplasty to address a flat bridge, you can mention that at the consultation so that the surgeon can discuss all the options. Best of luck!Dr. S.
