Hi. I'm confused. Is this your photo or is this someone else's photo to show the procedure? What your see is an extended tummy tuck on a man. Most men will also require liposuction of the love handles. It all depends on the extent of excess flaccid skin. Good luck.mDr PG

Body contouring procedures at the hip level-include addressing excess skin, and excess fat. Only surgical excision such as a extended Tummy Tuck or a complete circumferential lift will improve this area. As with any other plastic surgery procedure we begin with a correct diagnosis.

If the incision is circumferential (or goes all the way around), then this is a lower body lift (LBL).  A belt lipectomy also uses a circumferential scar.  Though both procedures help correct circumferential skin laxity, a lower body lift is different from a belt lipectomy.  Lower body lift aesthetically addresses the abdomen, lateral thigh, flanks, and posterior buttocks.  With a lower body lift, the incision is kept low.  The goal of a lower body lift is a well hidden scar below most panty lines.  A Belt lipectomy puts the scar high around the "belt line" of the abdomen.  The belt lipectomy is more of a circumferential excision of pannus.The lower body lift produces a more aesthetically pleasing result, especially when combined with liposuction.  In healthy patients, I perform a lower body lift.  Please read my peer reviewed publication for more details regarding lower body lift and liposuction.

Typically recommended in patients who have lost significant amount of weight, this procedure excises skin and fat around the entire torso, leaving the scars seen in your photo.  

Typically love handles are due to excess fat and are actually removed with liposuction. However, when there is excess skin involved, they are usually treated with an extended abdominoplasty since most patients will also have excess skin of the central abdomen as well; or in cases where there is skin excess all the way around, with a lower body lift (aka belt abdominoplasty, circumferential abdominoplasty, belt lipectomy, etc).  Certainly, each surgery should be tailored to suit the patient's needs and if there is only excess skin of the outer hip area then a more limited skin excision surgery just in these areas could be performed.
