Stop Creatine before lipo?

Question

I'm getting lipo of the flanks and inner/outer thighs (I'm going under anesthesia). Should I stop taking creatine? My surgery is a couple days away.

creatine will not affect liposuction.  I suggest following all the preoperative instructions and best of luck with your surgery!!

I don't think taking creatine before elective liposuction will have any harm. Nevertheless this is something that you should check with your own surgeon.

In our practice, we don't have patients stop creatine before liposuction.  Of course you should ask your own surgeon about their recommendations.Best wishes,RM

I do not think that taking creatine will influence your procedure but my advice is to consult that with your own plastic surgeon.

Creatine is a supplement and as such may have other products in it as well that can cause problems with surgery, besides the potential risks of the product itself. Best to stop it before surgery.  Good luck. Always best to ask your surgeon.

Thanks for writing,Here's what I know: Adverse Effect of creatineAbdominal pain, arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, cardiomyopathy, dehydration, diarrhea, hypertension, ischemic stroke, muscle cramps, nausea, renal dysfunction, rhabdomyolysis, seizures, weight gain.That like is scary enough for me never to start taking it, much less with surgery. However I would certainly check with your plastic surgeon, he / she needs to know all the things you take. Also make sure anaesthesia know all you meds and supplements. Good LuckStephen M. it is very unlikely that creatine will have any affect on your surgery. sometimes to be cautious the anesthesiologist have you stop all accessory products and vitamins etc but there is little or no evidence that creatine will have any deleterious affect.good luckdavid berman md
