A medial epicanthoplasty changes the fold that hangs over the inner canthus. It is a very small procedure and, if not overdone, the small scar that results can be a fair tradeoff for most patients.

The surgery you are describing is an epicanthoplasty. There are several approaches including Z-plasty, etc.The decision that you must make is whether you're willing to trade the epicanthal folds for a visible scar.  Because even if you heal very well, it will still leave a scar.  An image search on the terms epicanthoplasty scars will show you some very good results, and some no-so-good results.  It is impossible to predict in Asian skin types how well that scar will hide.  If the risk of a visible scar is unacceptable, then proceed with extreme caution.Best wishes!  Harry V. Your eyelids can be fixed or improved but it would be considered strictly cosmetic surgery. Talk to an ophthalmologist or oculoplastic surgeon to look at your options.

   There is a procedure to lessen or remove epicanthal folds. This is often referred to as westernizing the eyelid. It involves a small z-plasty and flip flopping of two small skin flaps to lengthen the fold and let it sit flat. The procedure works nicely and is done with simple local anesthesia injections in the office operating room in about 1 hour. Sutures are removed at one week and then you will have a great result the rest of your life.
