Microneedling may help skin cancer prevention or recurrence especially when done with Levulan (blue light PDT therapy). If there is a lot of sun damage and many growths there's a chance it will hide skin cancers so there should be careful removal of precancerous tissue and an excellent skin exam before doing any facial cosmetic procedure.
Hello and thank you for your question. Microneedling is an excellent treatment to improve textural issues on the skin including acne scars, large pores, fine lines and wrinkles. It would not be contraindicated to have a microneedling after having skin cancer. If you had Mohs surgery or surgical excision of the cancer doing these types of treatments will help with scarring. Hope this helps, Dr. S.
Hi,Thanks for your question. There is no contraindication for microneedling after a skin cancer diagnosis. Microneedling is an excellent tool for scar revision and is often combined with platelet rich plasma for added benefit. If your skin cancer scar is noticeable this procedure may actually help improve the appearance of the scar. Many times a series of treatments are needed. The procedure is also great to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Hope this helps.Kevin Cavanaugh, MD
Yes, in general, it is safe to have microneedling done after skin cancer. This is often done for improvement in surgical scar post-skin cancer removal or for general improvement in skin texture or fine lines. Sometimes, PRP (Platelet rich plasma) is added to microneedling. I also often recommend Alastin Skin Nectar with microneedling. It is best to check with your dermatologist for a definitive answer as each situation is special.
Yes, in fact microneedling an actually improve the scar from skin cancer surgery, especially if this is combined with therapies such as PRP. You will need several sessions. Microneedling itself will not reduce nor will it increase the rate of skin cancer. If you are looking at ways to reduce sun spots, lasers are the better option. If sun damage management is what you are after, than certainly PDT can help. All the best, Dr Davin Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
Yes, targeting the expected outcome...pores, wrinkles, scars??? This would all have a bearing on the type of needling we use. Energy micro needling vs non- energy, insulated tip vs non, and PRP vs no PRP. Most of us will use PRP as it gives better results with faster healing times. Dr Davin Lim....
Hi notebook241,It is normal to experience some redness and superficial scratches after microneedling. Your skin will be hypersensitive during the first few days. Skincare you have been using in the past may be too strong for you. Still to your post-op instructions. Don't forget to wear ...
It's best to discuss elective discontinuation of bloodthinners such as Plavix with your Cardiologist. That being said, microneedling is a fairly superficial treatment and is unlikely to cause significant bleeding. The patient on Plavix may have a bit more bruising with microneedling than th...
