Facelift, mini facelift, lower facelift? Marionette lines and waddle neck. Will a mini facelift solve these problems?

Hopeful17.   It sounds like you are a candidate for a Mini-Facelift. My favorite technique is the MACS short scar Mini-Facelift. Developed in Europe, it is the ideal approach for the younger patient, not ready for a full facelift, or patients who desire a less invasive procedure with a shorter recovery time. I would also consider fat grafting to your face to re-define your jaw line and fill out those areas that have lost volume over time.

A lower face/neck lift would make such a great improvement and is so easy to undergo under local with alittle iv sedation for comfort. It is so natural looking and hidden incisions makes it hard for anyone to really see.

Once the lower face begins to sag, the neck is usually sagging, too. That’s why I almost always combine a Mini Lift with a neck lift and plastysmaplasty (tightening the neck muscles). That’s the minimal set of procedures that would be beneficial to you. It would lift and tighten your neck, eliminate the waddle, reduce jowling and improve the marionette lines. However, it is possible that you would do better with a full rhytidectomy (facelift) with fat grafting, neck lift, and platysmplasty. Without full-face photos it’s hard to say. I’d suggest you begin consulting with facial plastic surgeons. Fillers alone will not give you much of an improvement at this point. I hope this helps.

A mini facelift that uses a SMAS flap to elevate the neck and cheek tissues will correct the marionette lines.  The procedure can be done under local anesthesia or IV sedation. 

A consultation would help with further explaining what would be your best option. For sure, a mini lift will help, though a mini lift with fat transfer would help even more and a lower facelift , neck lift with fat transfer would help the best. So its up to you to see how much surgery you are wiling to undergo, to get the best results possible vs good results possible. The lower facelift with neck lift will give you the best contouring of the jawline and neck and adding a fat transfer to fill in some volume in the mid face and marionette lines will help the marionette lines even more, by elevating the cheeks and filling in that area. 

From the limited 2 photos that you have posted it appears that you will greatly benefit from at least having a Lower Facelift and Neck-lift. On examination there may be a few other "tweaks" that may be recommended but you will definitely benefit from the aforementioned 2 procedure. I hope this has helped.

This is a great question, but one that can only be answered after an evaluation in-person.  Although age is a part of the calculus in determining the best procedure for you, what really differentiates a "mini" from a facelift is how the neck is dealt with.  Based on the photos, I would tend to lean toward a facelift based on the condition of the platysma and neck skin laxity viewable on your limited photos.  However, this might change as might other recommendations with a consultation.  It is in your best interest to have the most individualized and appropriate procedure as opposed to making a choice based on the allure of procedure terminology. You would be a good candidate for local anaesthetist facelift and neck lift which will remove any excess skin.  This would help achieve a contoured L shaped neck and remove any jowls, giving a nice sharp jawline.

Thank you for your question, marionette lines can be addressed during a mini-facelit.  The procedure is usually performed under IV Sedation, the recovery is approximately 7 to 10 days, and the improvement is noticeable and appreciated by patients.  The usual surgical time is 3 to 3:30 hours, and since it is with IV sedation patient are alert quickly after the procedure ends.  Always consult the opinion of a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, and review before and afters photos.
