Question

I know I have an overbite and very receded chin. Bracers didn't help me. I don't care about overbite much, but I don't like my profile. I had a rhinoplasty few years ago and my doctor suggested chin implant. I didn't want to have such a drastic change in my face at one time so I didn't go for it. But now im considering having a chin implant. My doctor suggested large. My concern is if that's going to look natural considering my face stucture now. My chin bone is really small and undeveloped

MiamiMM,You seem to be a proper candidate for a chin implant. You have a weak looking chin and a medium sized implant could make a great difference in your profile. Thank you for your pictures.  You can benefit from a chin implant but you really need a lower jaw advancement.  This will help your chin of course but it will increase the vertical height of the lower face.

You would definitely benefit from a chin implant. I will measure the patient to assess existing width and desired projection. Thank you for the question.  The concerns you voice are actually quite common among patients when the possibility of a chin implant is raised. Although there is no question that the results from placing a chin implant are transformative, newer implant designs yield very natural results. Based on the horizontal deficiency in your chin, a large implant is reasonable.  However, a vertical lengthening implant should be considered to help augment the vertical dimensions of your chin.

You would have a better result with an advancement genioplasty which can advance the chin as well as lenghten it in your case.  This would give you a more natural profile change.  The bite will not be changed with a genioplasty and the scar is in the mouth.  Good luck.  Donald R. Nunn MD

Careful with a larger implant since it could deepen the fold under the lip. You cannot make up for a small jaw with a chin implant only but it. Oils improve the projection when done carefully.
