I’m three weeks postop a lot of my swelling has gone down and it’s kind of freaked me out honestly I know that you have to wait a longer time to see final results but I would just like to know if it’s true does your butt get bigger again after the fat cells start to grow .
Answer: BBL Volume Hello and thank you for your question. It is very important to understand that the fat that is being transferred to your buttock consists of fat cells that are alive. These cells require oxygen and blood flow in order to remain alive after the transplant. Pressure to the buttock during recovery will cause flattening of the buttock and will reduce the amount of cells that survive. Regardless, over a 3 to 6 month period it is completely normal and expected for every patient to have a reduction in the size of their buttock after a Brazilian butt lift. Remember that the benefit of a Brazilian butt lift is that it uses your own fat to enhance the volume of your buttock while minimizing the complications of using a permanent substance. Every procedure has its trade-off but at the end of the day, you will keep a natural and soft buttock once you are completely recovered. Hope this upsets your question,Alex Zuriarrain, MD - Cleveland Clinic Trained Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Postoperative swelling Thank you very much for this very relevant question. The very problem that is unappreciated in an area of liposuction is very welcome in the area that has received the fat. The buttom. A lot of women are so very happy with their immediate postoperative shape that even though they knew that the size will go down they are still disappointed to experience it. You will have to live with a reduction of volume of about 30%. That is fluid in the very immediate postoperative time and fat cells that that are being resorbed later. After the fat cells have settled they will act as regular fat cells act. They will increase their size if you gain weight and vice versa if you lose weight. That’s why sometimes when people increase their caloric intake to artificially add on weight and after surgery they go back to their normal diet they will not only experience the 30% loss of fat cells but also the decrease in size of the surviving fat cells because of weight loss. Immediately after the surgery the decrease in size is the fastest after about three weeks 80% of the loss is achieved about three months after surgery you can expect a steady-state. So to answer your question unless you gain weight your bottom will not grow. Have a wonderful rest of the day and greetings from the beautiful island of Jamaica.

Answer: Post-Op Period Swelling is a majority of the volume in your buttocks in the immediate post-operative period then some fat cells do not graft and some volume is depleted then as well. In my practice I find that 3 months post-op is when patients can expect to stay that size. Your fat cells will not grow unless you are gaining weight after your BBL. Keep in mind that if you are gaining weight that your fat cells will grow all over your body and not just your buttocks. I wish you the best of luck! If you have any additional questions follow up with your surgeon!
