BBL uneven swelling? (photos)

Question

Hello I had a BBL on 12/12/2018. My right flanks and side swelling have been gone since the 2nd or 3rd week. But on the left side it’s still swollen, well I’m hoping it’s swelling and not just a botched job. I’ve tried to reach my surgeon’s assistant and text him as well for a follow up but I haven’t heard anything from them since the day of surgery. I just want to know if this is normal.

Brazilian Butt Lift recovery time is dependent on how the patient’s body reacts to the procedure. Patients usually return to work after a week but you should not sit without the use of cushions for at least two weeks and you must wear a compression garment for several weeks after the procedure. You should wait until at least 2 weeks after the procedure to engage in sexual activity. Swelling and discomfort normally fades at six weeks. After about a month you will be mostly healed and you can get a nice idea of the permanent results after around six months.

Dear mtia305,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a BBL surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues are still swollen. Thank you for your pictures and questions. In short, yes, some asymmetry and swelling is completely normal after surgery and you need to wait 3-6 months to see the final results. However, you know what is not normal?...sending messages to your surgeon and his/her office and not getting any response and not seeing your surgeon since the procedure. This tells me that you chose the wrong surgeon who is likely not board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. If that is the case, then I suggest you find a qualified and certified surgeon to evaluate you and give you an assessment. Hope this helps!Dallas R. Thank you for your questions and your photo. You are still recovery from your procedure so the swelling will continue to decrease. However, you should continue to try to contact your surgeon and schedule a follow up appointment where they can do an examination and make sure everything is healing normally. Good Luck.

You are still early on the healing process, it can take up to six months to see your final results, so please be patient. At the stage you are in, inflammation is normal.
If you have any concerns, please follow up close with your plastic surgeon.

Congratulations
on your recent procedure...The procedure of BBL is an
"insult" to the soft tissues, resulting in swelling which will
initially totally obscure the operative result. Swelling is usually asymmetric. As swelling represents an
accumulation of tissue fluid within the soft tissues, it will tend to
gravitate downward. When in bed, it will be more pronounced in your back,
and when up and around, it will gravitate to your feet. We recommend limiting
activities and practicing leg elevation whenever possible until swelling
subsides.
The
purpose of a compression garment is to prevent bleeding and to control
swelling. We usually recommend its use for the first 4-6 weeks after the
procedure. 
60-80%
of the swelling should subside within the first 6 weeks, with the remainder
slowly subsiding over 6-12 months. It is far too early to assess your final result.
I am very concerned, however, that you haven't gotten a response from your surgeon regarding followup care since the day of surgery. Contact the office ASAP to schedule followup evaluation.Best wishes...

Many patients have substantial hey symmetry as a baseline form. In fact the body used to barely perfectly symmetrical whether it be the face hips thighs buttocks or breast. Patients showing substantial asymmetry at one month will most likely have some long term asymmetry.   I typically tell my patience to wait six weeks before looking at the results at that time and if they're happy with the results they will only be thrilled when they get to three months. Patients who are significantly unhappy at six weeks will not be happy with more time. Consider posting pictures including before and after pictures from the side and you're behind. It is unfortunate your provider is not returning your communication. Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.
