Does my BBL affect intramuscular injections in the future?

I had a BBL seven years ago. Im now going through IVF and need to give myself intramuscular injections everyday for 3 months in my buttocks. (The injections are progesterone in oil.) Does the fact that I have a bbl affect anything with my shots? Is it still safe to do them in my buttocks or do I need to choose a different location?

Because it adds more fat beneath your skin, a BBL can make your buttocks muscles harder to reach. Your doctor may suggest having your first injection with the help of ultrasound. An ultrasound-assisted injection will allow your care team to visualize the needle and make sure it reaches into your muscles. If it does, you can proceed to give yourself shots. If it doesn’t, your doctor may suggest using a longer needle or recommend an alternative injection site. 
To make life easier, consider talking to the surgeon who performed your BBL first. They may know whether IM injections will be an issue or not based on how much fat they grafted.

BBL seven years ago does not prevent receiving intramuscular injections in your buttocks because fat is transferred to the buttocks and is placed either in the subcutaneous tissue so the gluteal muscles should remain unaffected and suitable for intramuscular injections. However, depending on the amount of fat grafted, there may be a thicker fat layer overlying the muscle, which could require a longer needle to ensure that the medication reaches the muscle. Inform your provider about your BBL so they may recommend using imaging, such as ultrasound guidance, to ensure the injections are placed in the muscle. If your provider determines that the buttocks are not ideal for injections due to the thickness of the fat layer, they may suggest alternative sites, such as the thigh or the deltoid. Also, watch for signs of improper injection, such as lumps, redness, or pain at the injection site, as these may indicate that the medication did not reach the muscle effectively.

Dear brantford23, thanks for sharing your concerns, In general, a gluteal lipotransfer (or gluteal lipoinjection) should not be affected by the application of progesterone injections years after the procedure. However, consult with your plastic surgeon and keep medical monitoring.
