I had a sliding genioplasty in Korea 2 years ago. At the time, I was told the chin would be lowered 3mm, but during recovery my chin looked much longer. When I asked the staff about it they then told me weeks AFTER the doctor decided to add a total of 5-6mm. I fought with the clinic for a while but they insisted I looked fine and refused to revision… I feel like it’s so pointy and long, especially when I smile. I can’t even fully smile the same. Is a revision from another doctor a good idea?

Answer: Secondary Sliding Genioplasty A secondary sliding genioplasty can be done by another doctor if they have the experience in doing so. It is likely that you had a t-shaped bony genioplasty to make the chin longer and more narrow which is a bit harder to change but can be done. What you need is postoperative x-rays so the surgeon can see exactly what was done the first time. But if the goal is to vertically shorten the chin by 3 or 4mms that should be straightforward to do.

Answer: Genioplasty Revision I suggest scheduling an in person consultations with local oral surgeons in your community to find out if somebody feels or wants to offer you a revision procedure. I’m sure there’s plenty of doctors happy to take your money. Standard pictures are better for assessing results. Your chin result looks good even in the smiling position but in the end you were the one who has to make the decision if you want to have another procedure. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
