Got a breast reduction on June 9, 2017. healing process was not ideal and did have to go thru a scar revision surgery on my left breast in December 2027, due to a reaction with the stitches and my skin rejecting multiple types of stitches, which caused my incision to separate and open back up. now that the wound has closed, i’ve noticed large lumps in my left breast and some in my right now as well- passed it off as scar tissue but there’s pain upon touch in the left.

Some patients will develop areas of fat necrosis after breast reduction surgery. This occurs because just like the outer skin, the underlying fat lives better with a robust blood supply. Sometimes areas of fat can become hard.  It is generally not a painful condition however. It can also be concerning during physical examination. You should continue with routine mammography and breast surveillance  to rule out any other abnormalities. If your scar a vision was recent, hard areas could also represent ongoing healing or induration. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Best wishes to you.
