Hi. It is possible to perform a TT with resiting of the ileostomy and i have had to do it on 4 occasions. It needs to be done as a combined case with a colorectal surgeon. It is higher risk but can be done safely if required. RegardsDamien
This is an absolute contraindication to tummy tuck in my opinion and a sure case in which infection and risk outweighs any possible benefit
this makes a tummy tuck very difficult. Is there a plan to reverse the ileostomy in the future? If so, then it could be done after that. Possible a conservative removal of skin may be possible, but it depends on the condition of your abdomen, why you have the ileostomy and where exactly if is placed. Going to see a plastic surgeon in consultation will give you correct advice. Regards, Dr Steve Merten
It probably is not possible to have a meaningful tummy tuck but this will depend upon the location of the ileostomy.
Thanks for your question. Unfortunately there is no simple answer as it depends on many factors including the extent of the tummy tuck required, the placement of your ileostomy. Generally speaking abdominoplasty surgery would not be recommended if you have an ileostomy but discussion with and between your general surgeon and a fully qualified plastic surgeon would clarify this for you.
Insurance will not pay for a tummy tuck. Sometimes, they will pay to remove the skin that is hanging over.
It may be difficult to coordinate this with a plastic surgeon and an OB/GYN.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
It is advisable to have a laboratory test on your stool to make sure there is no infection. For now you will need to be hydrated to conserve your strength.
